Local SEO in Singapore: Google Business Profile, Reviews and Location Pages
Local SEO in Singapore: set up Google Business Profile, collect reviews within Google's rules, keep details consistent and build real location pages.

The short answer
- 01
Get the Google Business Profile right. One verified profile per outlet, named exactly as on your signage, with specific categories, services and public holiday hours.
- 02
Ask for reviews within the rules. Ask every customer, offer nothing in return and never filter out the unhappy ones. Licensed clinics are different: MOH's advertising guidance only allows reviews that are unsolicited.
- 03
Back it up on your website. The same name, address and phone everywhere, a real page for each outlet with LocalBusiness schema, and tagged links so you can see what the profile brings in.
Local SEO in Singapore is the work that gets your business shown when someone searches Google Search or Google Maps for what you offer, such as “family clinic Tampines” or “cafe near me”. It rests on four things: a verified Google Business Profile with complete and accurate details, genuine reviews collected within Google’s rules, the same name, address and phone number wherever your business is listed, and a website with a real page for each location.
Singapore adds its own wrinkles: company names registered with ACRA that differ from the shopfront, and MOH advertising rules that change how clinics can collect reviews. This guide covers both, with worked examples for a clinic, a renovation contractor and a cafe. As a web design agency, we build the website side of local SEO, so we also show what your site needs to back up the profile.
How does local SEO work in Singapore?
Google’s help page on improving your local ranking says local results are “mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity”. It then explains three factors:
| Factor | What Google says | What you can do about it |
|---|---|---|
| Relevance | How well a profile matches what someone searched for | Complete, detailed information: categories, services, description, attributes |
| Distance | How far the business is from the searcher, or from where Google thinks they are | Very little, apart from where you open |
| Prominence | How well known the business is, including links to your business and the number of reviews | Genuine reviews, mentions and links from other sites, a site worth linking to |
The same page states plainly that there is no way to request or pay for a better local ranking.
Our reading for Singapore: in a heartland town centre or a mall, several clinics or cafes can sit within a short walk of each other. When they are about equally close to the searcher, distance separates them little, so relevance and prominence are where you can make a difference.
How do you set up and verify a Google Business Profile in Singapore?
Start with the account. Create or claim the profile with a Google Account your company controls, ideally linked to a company email address, and add staff or agencies as managers after verification. If the person who set it up leaves, the profile stays with the business.
Which type of Google Business Profile fits your business?
Google’s guidelines for representing your business set out who is eligible, and three rules catch Singapore businesses out:
- Virtual offices are not eligible. If you rent a mailing address but do not operate from it, that address cannot have a profile. That usually rules out a registered address at a corporate secretary’s office, unless you actually work from there.
- Co-working offices have conditions. A desk in a co-working space only counts if it has clear signage, receives customers during business hours and is staffed by your team during those hours.
- Home-based service businesses hide the address. If you travel to customers and run the business from home, Google says to clear the address and set a service area instead. You can list up to 20 areas by city, postal code or other area, but not as a radius.
A business that serves customers at its premises and also travels to them, such as an aircon servicing company with a walk-in counter, is a hybrid. It can show its address and set a service area.
How does Google Business Profile verification work?
Google decides which verification methods you are offered, based on your business type, public information, region and hours. You may see phone or SMS, email, a live video call, a video recording or a postcard, and sometimes you need more than one.
A few details save time:
- Video verification: show your signage and surroundings, your equipment or products, and proof you manage the business, such as opening a staff-only area.
- Postcard: most codes arrive within 14 days and expire after 30. Do not edit your business name, address or category while you wait, or the code stops working.
- Review time: after you complete the steps, Google reviews the details for up to 5 business days.
- Instant verification: Google says this can happen when you have already verified your website in Google Search Console.
What should you fill in on your Google Business Profile?
Business name
Google asks for your “real-world name, as used consistently on your storefront, website, stationery, and as known to customers”. Taglines, service descriptions, store codes and location details are not allowed in the name, and legal terms such as Ltd are only allowed if you can show real-world proof that you use them.
So a fictional clinic whose sign reads “Pelican Hill Family Clinic” uses exactly that, not “Pelican Hill Family Clinic Tampines 24 Hours” and not the company name “Pelican Hill Medical Pte. Ltd.”. The section on NAP consistency and your ACRA name below explains how the two names fit together.
Categories
Choose the fewest categories that describe your core business, and make them as specific as the list allows. Google’s test is that the category should complete the sentence “This business IS a”, not “this business HAS a”. A cafe with Wi-Fi is a cafe. Wi-Fi goes in the attributes.
Businesses with several outlets should give outlets the same category if they provide the same service.
Services and products
The services editor lets many business types list services, grouped into categories, with descriptions and optional prices. Use the words customers use, such as “HDB kitchen renovation”, with a short description for each. Google rejects custom service names that contain prices or phone numbers.
Retail shops can add products with the product editor. The automatic in-store product listing is only offered in the US, Canada, the UK and Ireland.
Opening hours and public holidays
Set your regular customer-facing hours, then use special hours for public holidays and short closures. Special hours cover up to 6 days in a row. For a closure of 7 days or more, Google says to mark the business as temporarily closed instead. Google also suggests confirming holiday hours even when they are unchanged.
Restaurants and cafes should use the hours when diners can sit down and eat. Businesses that work only by appointment, according to Google, should not list hours at all.
These are the public holidays from November 2026 to March 2027, from the Ministry of Manpower’s list. Set your hours for each one at least a week ahead.
| Public holiday | Date | What to decide |
|---|---|---|
| Deepavali | Sunday 8 November 2026 | Monday 9 November is a public holiday for employees whose rest day falls on the Sunday. Set both days. |
| Christmas Day | Friday 25 December 2026 | Also check Christmas Eve if you close early. |
| New Year’s Day | Friday 1 January 2027 | Also check New Year’s Eve. |
| Chinese New Year | Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 February 2027 | Monday 8 February is a public holiday for employees whose rest day falls on the Sunday. If you close for 7 days or more, mark the profile temporarily closed. |
| Hari Raya Puasa | Wednesday 10 March 2027 | Confirm your hours, even if unchanged. |
| Good Friday | Friday 26 March 2027 | Confirm your hours, even if unchanged. |
Photos, description and posts
Add real photos of each outlet, including the entrance and signage so people can find you inside a mall, and replace them when the shopfront or menu changes.
The business description should say what you do and for whom. Google does not allow links in it, or promotions and prices.
Posts can share updates, offers and events, each with a button that links to your website. Google’s posts content policy says posts with unverified phone numbers may be removed, and suggests the Call now button instead.
Chat and WhatsApp
Under Contact, verified profiles can add a chat option, either WhatsApp or text messages. Google says it is available in select regions, so check whether you see it. The WhatsApp link uses WhatsApp’s click to chat format: https://wa.me/ followed by your number in international format without the plus sign, spaces or dashes, such as https://wa.me/65XXXXXXXX. If you add both WhatsApp and text, Google only shows the text option.
How should you ask for Google reviews in Singapore?
Reviews feed prominence. Google’s ranking page says “more reviews and positive ratings can help your business’s local ranking”, and replies show customers you are listening. The rules on how you ask are specific. They sit in the Google Maps user contributed content policy, and they apply to Business Profiles too.
The policy does not allow businesses to:
- offer incentives such as payment, discounts, free goods or services in exchange for a review, or for changing or removing a negative one;
- “discourage or prohibit negative reviews, or selectively solicit positive reviews”, which rules out review gating, where you first ask customers if they were happy and only send the happy ones to Google;
- require or pressure customers to leave a review while they are on the premises;
- set staff a number of reviews to collect, or ask customers to include specific content, including naming a staff member.
What the policy does allow is asking customers to post about a genuine experience, without incentives and without trying to influence the rating or the words.
How to ask for a Google review properly
- Get your review link or QR code. Google’s guide to getting more reviews shows how to create both from your profile. Customers need a Google Account to post.
- Ask everyone at the same moment, such as at handover or in a follow-up message. Asking every customer keeps it from becoming gating.
- Keep the message neutral. For example: “Thanks for choosing us for your kitchen. If you have a minute, an honest review on Google helps other homeowners decide: [link].”
- Reply to reviews, good and bad. Google advises short, specific replies with no promotions, and never sharing a reviewer’s private information.
Can clinics in Singapore ask patients for Google reviews?
This is where the usual advice does not apply. Under the Healthcare Services Act advertising rules, MOH’s guidance on which reviews are allowed says reviews are acceptable when they are organically provided by patients, unpaid, unsolicited, not modified by the licensee (removing offensive comments is allowed) and not reproduced by the licensee. MOH’s explanation of why paid reviews are prohibited also quotes the SMC Ethical Code: doctors “must not ask or induce” patients to write positive testimonials.
The safest reading for a licensed clinic is: no review requests at the counter, by SMS or on the receipt, and no Google reviews embedded or quoted on the clinic website. The clinic can still keep its profile complete and accurate, and reply to reviews politely without discussing anyone’s treatment. If you run a clinic, check the current MOH guidance or ask your adviser before you change how you handle reviews.
Why do NAP consistency and your ACRA name matter for local SEO?
NAP stands for name, address and phone number. Google builds business information from several sources, including crawled web content such as your own website, licensed third-party data and user contributions. When those sources disagree, you are giving Google conflicting facts about the same business.
Singapore addresses and numbers can be written in many ways, so pick one format and use it everywhere:
- Unit number:
#01-23everywhere, not01-23on one listing andUnit 1-23on another. Google’s guidelines say a suite or unit number can go on the second address line. - Block and street: decide between “Blk” and “Block”, and keep the building or mall name the same.
- Postal code: always the full six digits.
- Phone: one main number per outlet, written the same way, such as
+65 6XXX XXXX. Google wants a number under the business’s direct control, and a local number rather than a central call centre where possible.
Check your website, each profile, Apple and Bing listings, social pages and directories.
ACRA company name or trading name?
Many Singapore businesses trade under a name that is different from their registered company name. The Business Names Registration Act 2014 only exempts a company from registering when it carries on business under its corporate name (section 4(1)(m)). Every other business name has to be registered with ACRA (section 5). So “Pelican Hill Medical Pte. Ltd.” trading as “Pelican Hill Family Clinic” should have that business name registered too.
For local SEO the two names have different jobs:
- The trading name is what customers know. It goes on the Google Business Profile, Apple Maps, the website header and your signage.
- The company name and UEN go in the website footer, on invoices and in the terms and privacy pages.
- In structured data,
namecarries the trading name andlegalNamethe company name, so search engines can connect them.
We do this on our own site. Our structured data names the business “JIN Design” and gives the legal name as “JIN Collective Pte. Ltd.”.
How do you build location pages for several outlets without creating doorway pages?
Each outlet with its own profile should have its own page on your website, and the profile’s website link should point to that page rather than the home page. Google’s guidelines ask for a website “that represents your individual business location”, and a customer who taps through from Tampines wants Tampines details.
The risk is building pages for places where you have no outlet. Google’s spam policies name this as doorway abuse, with examples including “multiple domain names or pages targeted at specific regions or cities that funnel users to one page” and “substantially similar pages that are closer to search results than a clearly defined, browseable hierarchy”.
A good outlet page answers what someone needs before visiting: the full address with unit number and a map, that outlet’s hours and phone, the nearest MRT exit and parking, what differs at this outlet, real photos, and LocalBusiness structured data for that outlet only. Use a clear structure, such as /outlets/tampines/ and /outlets/jurong-east/, linked from an outlets page that lists them all.
What if you serve islandwide without a shopfront?
A contractor or mobile service that covers the whole island has one service-area profile. On the website, show where you work through real projects instead of town pages: a project page for a resale flat in Punggol, with photos and scope, is useful to someone in Punggol because the job actually happened there.
Which LocalBusiness schema should a Singapore business add?
Structured data tells search engines the facts on a page in a format they read directly. Google’s local business documentation requires only name and address, and recommends geo, openingHoursSpecification, telephone, url and, where relevant, menu, servesCuisine and priceRange.
Four details make the markup accurate:
- Use the most specific type. Google asks for the most specific LocalBusiness subtype, such as
MedicalClinic,CafeOrCoffeeShoporGeneralContractor. - One block per outlet page. Each outlet is its own LocalBusiness, on its own page, matching what that page shows.
- Holiday closures. Google’s documentation uses
validFromandvalidThroughfor seasonal hours, andopensandclosesboth set to00:00for a day you are closed. - No self-written reviews. Google recommends
reviewandaggregateRatingonly for sites that capture reviews about other businesses, so do not mark up your own testimonials.

A contractor without a public address does not need to publish one. It can describe the company with Organization markup and an areaServed of Singapore instead.
Our free schema markup generator builds LocalBusiness markup with the right subtype, formats +65 phone numbers and opening hours, and checks Google’s required properties as you type. Test the published page in Google’s Rich Results Test afterwards.
Do Apple Maps, Bing and AI assistants matter for local SEO in Singapore?
Yes, and once your Google profile is right they take little extra work. Each draws on business listings and websites, so keep your name, address, phone number and hours the same everywhere.
Apple Business. Apple replaced Apple Business Connect with Apple Business on 14 April 2026, a free service that manages your place card across Apple Maps, Safari and Spotlight and, Apple says, helps you reach customers across Maps, Mail, Wallet and Siri. Claim your locations at business.apple.com and check that the name, address and hours match Google.
Bing Places. Microsoft relaunched Bing Places for Business in October 2025 at bing.com/forbusiness, with an import from Google Business Profile that Microsoft says is better at keeping the name, hours and contact details. Listings appear in Bing search results and Bing Maps.
AI assistants. Google shows business profiles in Search, Maps and third-party apps, and compiles them partly from crawled web content, including your own website. OpenAI’s help page on searching the web with ChatGPT says ChatGPT can use an approximate location for local results and may share it with third-party providers for information such as nearby business listings. The same page says a site must allow OAI-SearchBot to crawl it to be eligible for inclusion in ChatGPT search. Our free AI search readiness checker shows whether AI crawlers can reach your site and whether it has Organization or LocalBusiness markup.
How do you track calls, WhatsApp and directions from Google Business Profile?
Your profile’s Performance report shows views, the searches people used, calls, direction requests, website clicks, messages and bookings. Read it with three limits in mind:
- Calls count taps on the call button only. Someone who copies the number and dials it is not counted.
- Directions are de-duplicated for repeat taps, cancellations and spam, so they will not match a simple tap count.
- The figures include Google Ads. Google says performance data covers views, searches and actions from organic results and Google Ads.
Website clicks are where your own analytics take over. Without tags, a visit from your profile looks the same in GA4 as any other Google search visit. Add UTM tags to every link in the profile, keeping the medium as organic so GA4 still files it under Organic Search, and use the campaign to tell profiles and links apart:
| Link in the profile | Example tags |
|---|---|
| Website, Tampines outlet | ?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=gbp-tampines |
| Website, Jurong East outlet | ?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=gbp-jurong-east |
| Booking or appointment link | add &utm_content=booking |
| Menu link (cafes) | add &utm_content=menu |
In GA4, open Traffic acquisition and switch the first column to Session campaign to see each profile’s visits and enquiries. Our free UTM builder writes the tags in lower case and shows which GA4 channel each link will land in. GA4 also has an AI Assistant channel for visits from sources such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Copilot, while visits from Google’s AI Overviews and AI Mode count as Organic Search.
WhatsApp and calls from the profile never reach your website. Add a pre-filled message to the WhatsApp link, such as https://wa.me/65XXXXXXXX?text=Hi%2C%20I%20found%20you%20on%20Google%20Maps, so staff can see where a chat started (people can edit it, so treat the count as a minimum), and ask new callers how they found you.
Our tracking and analytics setup records enquiries first-party and credits each lead to the channel and campaign that brought it, including a tagged profile link.
What does local SEO look like for a Singapore clinic, contractor or cafe?
These businesses are fictional.
A family clinic with two outlets
Pelican Hill Family Clinic is registered as Pelican Hill Medical Pte. Ltd., with outlets in Tampines and Jurong East.
- Profiles and website: two profiles with the same name, linking to
/outlets/tampines/and/outlets/jurong-east/, each with its own hours, doctors on duty, MRT directions, phone and WhatsApp, andMedicalClinicmarkup. Each profile links to its own page with UTM tags. - Hours: Sunday and public holiday hours differ by outlet, so each profile gets its own special hours before every holiday.
- Reviews: following the cautious reading above, the clinic does not ask for reviews or repost them on its website. Staff reply to reviews politely and never discuss a patient’s care in public.
A renovation contractor that serves islandwide
Nine Tiles Renovation has no showroom. The owner runs the business from home and meets clients at their flats.
- Profile: one service-area profile with the home address hidden and Singapore set as the service area. Because site visits are by appointment, it follows Google’s guidance and does not list opening hours.
- Reviews: every client gets the same WhatsApp message with the review link at handover. There is no discount on the final invoice for a review.
- Website: no town pages. Instead, a project page for each finished job (flat type, estate, scope, timeline, before and after photos) and Organization markup with
areaServed. The profile’s website link is tagged.
A neighbourhood cafe
Halfmoon Coffee has one outlet in a row of shophouses.
- Profile: a cafe category, dine-in hours and shopfront photos.
- Menu: the menu link points to a menu page on the cafe’s own website, written as text rather than only an image. Google’s guidelines do not allow menu links that go straight to a third-party ordering or delivery service.
- Holidays: the cafe closes for the first three days of Chinese New Year, so those dates go in as special hours in January, not on the day.
- Reviews: a QR code on the receipt with “Tell us how we did on Google”. No free drink for a five-star review.
- Tracking: UTM tags on the website and menu links, and
CafeOrCoffeeShopmarkup withmenuandservesCuisine.
What should be on your local SEO checklist?
Run through this every quarter, and again a couple of weeks before each public holiday.
If your rankings depend on more than the profile, such as competitive service pages, the wider technical SEO checklist and our guide to on-page SEO cover the rest of the site.
How we help with the website side of local SEO
The profile gets you seen; the website has to confirm the details and turn the visit into an enquiry. We design and build websites with a real page for each outlet, consistent NAP, LocalBusiness structured data, pages that load quickly on a phone, and tracking that shows which profile, page and channel brought each enquiry.
If you are not sure what your site is missing, a website audit gives you a list of fixes in order of impact. For ongoing SEO work such as content and links, our list of SEO agencies in Singapore is a starting point, and we are happy to work alongside the one you choose.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a physical address for a Google Business Profile in Singapore?
No. A business that visits customers, such as a contractor or a mobile service, can have one service-area profile with the address hidden. What you cannot use is a virtual office or a rented mailing address you do not operate from, and a co-working desk only counts if it has signage and staff and receives customers during business hours.
Can I give customers a discount for leaving a Google review?
No. Google's policy does not allow incentives such as payment, discounts, free goods or services in exchange for a review, or for changing or removing one. Reviews posted because of an incentive can be removed. You can ask every customer for an honest review, as long as you offer nothing in return.
Should my Google Business Profile name include Pte. Ltd.?
Only if it appears on your real-world signage, website and stationery. Google's guidelines say the name should match how customers know your business, and legal terms such as Ltd are only allowed with proof that you consistently use them. Your ACRA company name can go in your website footer and in the legalName field of your structured data.
How many Google Business Profiles can a business with several outlets have?
One per outlet that serves customers at that address, each with its own address, hours and phone number. Google's guidelines say all outlets should use the same name unless the real-world name differs from outlet to outlet, and share the same category if they provide the same service.
Can a clinic in Singapore ask patients for Google reviews?
MOH's guidance under the Healthcare Services Act says reviews are allowed where they are organic, unpaid, unsolicited and not reproduced by the clinic, and the SMC Ethical Code says doctors must not ask or induce patients to write positive testimonials. Our cautious reading is that clinics should keep their profile accurate and reply to reviews, but not ask for them or repost them on their website. Check the current MOH guidance before relying on this.
How long does Google Business Profile verification take?
Google reviews your details for up to 5 business days after you complete a verification step, and sometimes longer. If you verify by postcard, most codes arrive within 14 days and expire after 30 days, and you should not edit your name, address or category while you wait.
